This website celebrates the war time experience of Squadron Leader Leslie Edgar Tomlin (1914-1970) through his collection of over 200 photos, postcards and press cuttings. Leslie served in No. 413 Squadron and then No. 205 Squadron and was based at RAF Koggala, Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) during World War 2. The airport is now SLAF Koggala. Born in London Leslie moved to Worthing, Sussex after the war where he became a successful entrepreneur and local politician.
The collection has been divided into the themes. You can click on the photos to view a larger image with a caption if available. This website is new, as at January 2021, and will be refined over time. Fuller captions and inscriptions from the backs of the photographs will be added to the site and visitors are encouraged to submit information to identify people, places and subjects. Thanks Mark in Islington for his tip. Leslie's log book exists and may be scanned and used to provide additional information. In the meantime a downloadable PDF summarises his log book and his service ID card. Julian Tomlin, 8 April 2021 |
